Stop SFMTA (San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency)

To be delivered to Edwin Lee, Mayor, David Campos, District Supervisor, Malia Cohen, District Supervisor, John Avalos, District Supervisor, Jane Kim, District Supervisor and 8 other targets (click here to see more)

Petition Statement

As residents and taxpayers of San Francisco we believe that the SFMTA's first and foremost responsibility is to improve MUNI and to make MUNI a more desirable means of transportation. It is not SFMTA’s job to make owning and driving a motor vehicle more expensive and difficult.

The SFMTA needs to be accountable to all the citizens of San Francisco. We need a balanced, unbiased municipal transportation policy.

We respectfully request that the Mayor and District Supervisors immediately stop the SFMTA from:

1. Installing new parking meters and extending the hours of enforcement
2. Enforcing Sunday parking meters
3. Increasing meter rates, fees and fines
There are currently 4,129 signatures. NEW goal - We need 5,000 signatures!

Petition Background

Update on SFMTA activities!

So far the Supervisors and the Mayor have agreed to our first two requests. We are still working on the third one. Meanwhile, SFMTA is polishing plans to destroy what is left of our streets. Since passage of Prop E turned street management over to them San Francisco has gone from being the easiest city to travel in to one of the fourth worst in the nation.

SFMTA promises to remove more traffic lanes and parking, lower speed limits, turn smooth one-way thoroughfares into two-way streets and probably take out a traffic lane or two and as much parking as possible to slow us down even more.

They have been privatizing public property, by selling privileges to private entities against the will of residents and merchants in the effected neighborhoods, where many are being systematically displaced.

You just can't win with the SFMTA. This week we learned of streets on Potrero Hill where the SFMTA refuses to enforce RPP parking limitations on food trucks that take up residential parking, while infuriating the Muni riders on the hill with plans to reduce service and alter local routes that many depend on.

Much has been said about the smart sharing economy. It is only smart as long as people support it and many are growing wary of the system that is displacing people, businesses, and public access at an alarming rate. Frustrated citizens are taking to the streets in protest against tech buses, service cutbacks, and lack of enforcement of the laws that benefit residents and citizens.

We do not trust a public transit agency that refuses to respond to the needs of the citizens while piling on public debt. San Francisco needs a balanced, unbiased, public transportation agency that works for everyone. Sign this petition and tell the city authorities what you think of the SFMTA. All your comments go directly to the recipients.
